DAVE OLIVER RESIGNATION
31 Jan 2017
I wish to pay tribute to Dave Oliver for his incredible service to the Australian union movement and Australian workers.
Dave has had a distinguished career representing workers – particularly in his five-year tenure as the Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
I have known Dave as a friend and colleague for more than twenty years and have worked with him in a variety of different roles. In each he has never lost sight of why he joined the union movement - to advance the interests of working people.
Most recently, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Dave in my capacity as Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
Dave has made an immense contribution to improving living standards for men and women in workplaces across the country.
I am deeply grateful for his tireless and passionate advocacy for a fairer and more equal Australia.
He has led Australia’s union movement with courage and conviction, particularly in the face of the aggressive anti-union agenda of the Abbott and Turnbull Governments. The union movement is stronger because of his lifelong contribution.
I want to thank Dave for his service and wish he and his family the very best for the future.
