MINISTER CASH FULL OF HOT AIR WHEN IT COMES TO YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

October 31, 2019

The Morrison Government’s Employment Minister is all talk and no action when it comes to addressing youth unemployment.

Minister Cash is in Western Australia today where the youth unemployment rate is 13.8 per cent, close to three times the national average of 5.2 per cent – yet after 6 years in office, the Government is still offering no meaningful, long-term plan to get these young people into work.

The Minister has talked the talk about youth unemployment today, but for the young people of Western Australia and across the country who are desperately looking for work, the Government’s lip service means very little.

Despite a persistently high youth unemployment rate and nearly 260,000 unemployed young Australians, this Government has no meaningful plan or strategy to help get young people into work.

The only example the Government ever provides to show they are addressing the issue is their failed, exploitative Youth Jobs PaTH program – which even the Minister for Youth confirmed has failed in terms of take up and job outcomes.

Young Australians need more than just talk from this Government. They need real action to address youth unemployment and our floundering economy.
