In a real time example of this Government scrambling over its internal division on the issue of climate change, the Minister for Science tried to delete evidence of her repeated obfuscation on the issue of human impacts of climate change.
Following a release today pointing out Minister Andrews has frequently deferred questions and used obfuscation to avoid attributing climate change to human activity, and pointing to such examples of this through past interviews such as this interview, it became apparent that the transcript disappeared from her website.
Perhaps it was deleted to try and cover up repeated instances of her go-to response that she is listening to the scientists, but failing to make a determination on the impact of climate change nor develop a plan to deal with the ramifications.
It wasn’t until calling her out on this on Twitter that it seems to have reappeared.
It’s good to see the missing transcript has reappeared.
Minister Andrews’ comments today that debating the existence of climate change is a “waste of time” are concerning and Labor urges the Minister to defend Australians scientists who have consistently warned of the effects of climate change on natural disasters.
Minister Andrews needs to clarify if she agrees with CSIRO scientists who state unequivocally that “recent warming can only be explained by human influence” (CSIRO, State of the Climate 2018, p.22).
