A Life in Public Service
Brendan O'Connor has served the Australian people for over two decades as the federal Member for Burke, an electorate spanning Melbourne's northern suburbs in Victoria. His is a career defined by consistent advocacy for working Australians, principled policy-making, and a record of genuine ministerial leadership.
First elected to the House of Representatives, Brendan quickly established himself on the Labor benches as a dependable, evidence-driven voice. Over the course of successive parliaments he rose through the ranks to occupy some of the most demanding portfolio responsibilities in the federal government, serving in both government and opposition with the same commitment to good outcomes for Australians.
Throughout his career he has championed fair and safe workplaces, a well-functioning immigration system, and a national skills agenda that prepares workers for the jobs of the future.
